“CLOTHES AREN’T GOING TO CHANGE THE WORLD, THE WOMEN THAT WEAR THEM WILL” - ANNE KLEIN
Approximately 80% of the world’s garment workers are women and they are very often exploited.
Surely as feminists, we care about all women of the world, not just those we know.
Many garment workers are working between 60 and 140 hours of overtime per week and it is common to be cheated of overtime pay.
Less than 2% of women working in Bangladesh sweatshops for fast fashion retailers earn a living wage.
Women are desirable in the garment industry because employers take advantage of cultural stereotypes – to which women are often obliged to adhere – that portrays them as passive and flexible.
MAKE YOUR PLEDGE
You could pledge to buy from brands that are transparent about their supply chain and that pay fair wages. Girl power.
